For this custom web page on Walmart.com, Mars asked for 3 key components:
Educate consumers on the freeze-drying process
Build awareness of different texture of the product
Stay on-brand with the Skittles jester voice and absurd theme
How do you convey texture and flavor through a primarily digital marketing experience?
Our team developed a series of mini games/interactions for a shoppable brand page on the Walmart website. Each interaction would hit on one of the three key components requested by Mars:
Enter the Freeze Dryer showed how normal skittles burst when freeze dried
Shake the Sky let consumers “crunch the rainbow” using sound effects and memes to indicate flavor
Spread the Craze made Skittles Pop’d into a shareable memes to delight and surprise consumers
I was tasked with creating the memes for each section and with the general layout of the custom brand page, and for creating all of the banner ads that drove back to the page.
Of course this digital experience was coupled with in-store tasting events, to launch later in the year. I also designed all of the print and large format assets for the in-store events.
